Dailuaine Distillery
Dailuaine distillery was built in 1851 by William Mackenzie of the Mackenzie Brothers. It was, at the time, the largest single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Speyside. The distillery remained in the Mackenzie family until the death of Thomas Mackenzie, William’s son, in 1915 when the dstillery was sold to John Dewar & Sons, John Walker & Sons, and James Buchanan & Co.
A fire in 1917 forced the distillery to close for repair, and it reopened 3 years later. DCL took over the distillery in 1925 and in 1959 yet another fire ripped through the distillery. It reopened again in 1960.
Dailuaine’s first single malt, a 16 year old Flora & Fauna, was released in 1991.
Flora & Fauna
The Flora & Fauna series is an official series from Diageo, showcasing fantastic single malt whiskies from some of their (sometimes) lesser known distilleries.
The name comes from the label design which features black illustrations of different flowers, animals and scenes for each distillery. Stretching to nearly 300 different whiskies from 10 to 30 years old, there are a few different styles within the series to narrow down your collection aims, from the more standard black cap releases, to the super rare white cap and some incredible cask strength releases.
