Coleburn Distillery
Coleburn distillery began distillery in the last year of the 19th century, at the end of the 1890s whisky boom. The distillery was designed by Charles Doig, the inventor of the so-called ‘pagoda kiln’ that has become synonymous with Scotch whisky, and one of Scotland’s most revered architects.
After a few ownership changes and mergers, DCL licensed Coleburn distillery to J&G stewart, and subsidiary based in Edinbugh.
Coleburn was a victim of the 1980s Whisky Loch, and eventually lost its distilling license in 1992. Since 2004, plans have been in place to turn the former distillery site into a luxury hotel and spa. However, in 2014 the dunnage warehouses at Coleburn were leased to Murray McDavid. Murray McDavid owns the Coleburn brand and has expressed interest in restarting production at the distillery. Watch this space…
Connoisseurs Choice
Arguably Gordon & Macphail’s most famous series, the Connoisseurs Choice range showcases a variety of single malts from every region in Scotland. The range was launched in the mid-1960s and remains a by-word for high quality single malts from distilleries such as Macallan, Ardbeg, and Port Ellen.
