Benriach Distillery
BenRiach distillery was built in 1898 by John Duff, and is located near Elgin in Speyside. The distillery draws its water from an aquifer beneath the distillery and creates both peated and unpeated malts. Somewhat understated, BenRiach’s ability to produce a quality single malt should not be overlooked.
The distillery gained a glowing reputation under the ownership of Billy Walker, and was even awarded Global Whisky Distillers of the Year in 2015. In 2016 the distillery was sold to Brown-Forman, and a new portfolio was revealed in 2020.
Glenlivet
The second best selling single malt whisky in the world. Glenlivet has risen to its own fame in many ways, their bottlings of 18YO and Nadurra Cask Strength bottlings have really put them on the map for whisky drinkers, but regarding building their brand in the early 1960’s, Glenlivet managed to get miniature bottles on trains the covered the whole of the United States, imprinting the brand into the minds of travellers both international and domestic. The distillery stands strong with 28 stills producing an output of 21,000,000 litres per year. Glenfiddich and Glenlivet have always been chopping and changing with who has the biggest selling in the world, but it’s even closer than ever before now.
Cadenhead
Cadenhead was first established by George Duncan in 1842, at 47 Netherkirkgate in Aberdeen, making it the oldest of Scotland’s independent bottlers. In 1972 J & A. Mitchell took over the business and moved operations from Netherkirkgate to Campbeltown. Nowadays, in addition to the high-end, non-coloured and non-chill-filtered single malts, Cadenhead has tasting rooms and shops in Edinburgh and London.
