Just think of it as a mini adventure for your taste buds!

About the Bottle:

This exclusive bottling of 29 year old Grande Champagne Cognac celebrates the rich history of one of France’s most beloved spirits.

Cognac is produced exclusively in the Cognac region of France. This particular cognac hails from the Grande Champagne region, known for its chalky, high-quality soil.

As interesting as the crus and regions of cognac, is the legend surrounding its creation. According to legend, Chevalier de la Croix Maron, Lord of Segonzac, was plagued by nightmares in which the devil roasted him alive by fire not once, but twice. Segonzac assumed that these horrific dreams were punishment for him having just killed his wife and her lover upon discovering her infidelity. At night he would nurse a glass of brandewijn (a fairly new Dutch spirit, made from distilled French wines) and ponder solutions to his problem.

Segonzac was a profoundly religious man, a fact which he used to justify why the devil roasted him twice - his soul was too spiritual and pure to be damned by just one roasting. And so, in an insomnia-filled haze (or a moment of absolute clarity), he decided that the nightmares were a message from God that his favourite drink, brandewijn, should be roasted (or distilled) twice as well. The resulting liquid was more smooth, sweet, and complex than Segonzac could ever have imagined. The new spirit was named cognac.

This 29 year old Grande Champagne Cognac bottled for Mark Littler Ltd tells this fascinating and rather fantastical story through its label. The large ‘C’ that sits front and centre is made up of elements including Dutch trading ships, the Limousin oak casks used to mature the cognac, and Satan perched in the rafters looking over Segonzac being roasted alive.

Though this story is certainly fiction, it has endured throughout the centuries and has captured the imagination of those who enjoy this complex spirit.

Purchase your bottle of Grande Champagne Cognac 29 Year Old and relish in the history of Cognac.
