MacPhails
This 'mystery' Macphails offering bottled by the iconic independent bottlers Gordon & Macphail is from an unknown distillery in the Scottish Highlands. What we do know is that it was distilled in 1950 and aged for 36 years before being bottled in the instantly recognisable Macphail’s Book of Kells series.
The Book of Kells is a 9th century illuminated manuscript containing four gospels, one of the illustrations has been adapted by Gordon and Macphail for use on the label in their 'Celtic Series' and the label shows two 'dram takers' intertwined in the classic Celtic medieval style seen in the Book of Kells.
Gordon & Macphail are one of the oldest whisky bottlers to exist in the world. Bottling over 350 expressions from over 70 distilleries, as well as bottling whisky for numerous large distilleries in Scotland for decades. Bottling whisky for 115 years and now proud owners of the Benromach distillery since 1993. They did nearly purchase Strathisla Distillery from Seagram’s in the 1950’s, but Seagram’s wanted £71,000, whereas G&M only offered £70,000. Imagine.
