Lochside Distillery
Lochside distillery began life as a brewery in 1786. It was bought by Joseph Hobbs in 1957 and a Coffey still was installed. The distillery remained in the Hobbs family until 1973 when it was purchased by a Spanish distilling company named DYC. In the earlys 1990s DYC was purchased by Allied Distillers. The new owners decided that Lochside was surplus to requirements and sold the distillery to developers. The developers then demolished the distillery in 2005. The demolition of Lochside is a sore subject for locals who remember Lochside’s eye-catching white tower looming over the Montrose landscape.
Murray McDavid
Murray McDavid was established in 1994 and quickly gained a reputation for interesting maturation methods and subsequent bottling. The company also played an integral role in the reopening of Bruichladdich in 2000. The bottlers are currently based in Coleburn distillery, Speyside.
