Banff

Some will know Banff as the unluckiest distillery in Scotland. In the general history of spirit distillation, huge world events have seen limitations and full closures imposed on many distilleries. Banff seems to have been the worst hit of them all. The most significant event was during WW2 when a lone Junker Ju88 aircraft bombed one of the warehouses. In 1959 whilst carrying out repairs on the stills, vapour was ignited and destroyed part of the distillery. Just as renovations were completed and production was in full swing, the distillery closed in 1983, by the late 80’s most of the buildings had been demolished with the last warehouse being destroyed by a fire in 1991.
