Glenugie Distillery
Glenugie first opened in 1831 as Invernettie, the site then changed hands a number of times until it fell silent for WW1. Its production was intermittent again from the early 1920’s through to its purchase by Seager Evans in 1956, who replaced and fitted newer equipment to double production. Glenugie struggled during the 1980s downturn and the distillery was closed in 1983 due to increased competition and a decline in the demand of whisky throughout the early 1980’s.
Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & Macphail are one of the oldest whisky bottlers to exist in the world. Bottling over 350 expressions from over 70 distilleries, as well as bottling whisky for numerous large distilleries in Scotland for decades. Bottling whisky for 115 years and now proud owners of the Benromach distillery since 1993. They did nearly purchase Strathisla Distillery from Seagram’s in the 1950’s, but Seagram’s wanted £71,000, whereas Gordon & Macphail only offered £70,000. Imagine.
Connoisseurs Choice
Arguably Gordon & Macphail’s most famous series, the Connoisseurs Choice range showcases a variety of single malts from every region in Scotland. The range was launched in the mid-1960s and remains a by-word for high quality single malts from distilleries such as Macallan, Ardbeg, and Port Ellen.
