Bowmore
Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay however it didn’t have much notable history until Suntory bought 35% in Morrison-Bowmore in 1989. After this point we saw huge changes in how Bowmore was marketed to the world. The launch of Black Bowmore in 1993, arguably, signalled the induction of whisky as a collectable asset. Suntory bought Morrison-Bowmore outright in 1994. Following this was the launch of Bowmore 15 Darkest in 1999, and the eventual release of the oldest and most sought-after Bowmore stocks to the world. There was also the change in distillate style after Suntory became involved, with the pre1990 stock of Bowmore always being given the ‘lavender’ moniker.

About The Black Bowmore
This Black Bowmore 31 year old is the third edition in this iconic series. Released in 1995 the Black Bowmore Final Edition is now rather confusingly the third in a series of six Black Bowmore bottles.
The Black Bowmore Final Edition came from the same 1964 sherry casks as its counterparts in the series, but was bottled in 1995 at 31 years old. Just 1,812 bottles were produced for this edition as reserves of this 1964 vintage become scarcer with every release. The Black Bowmore series is one of the most collectible and sought after series of whisky on the secondary market due to its rarity and stellar combination of vintage, age, colour, and presentation.
This is a 70cl bottle of whisky with an ABV of 49%. The bottle is engraved and is accompanied by its classic wooden presentation box.
Bowmore sits in the heart of Islay, just south of Loch Indaal. The distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland, and it is the oldest in the Islay region. It was established in 1779 by John P Simson and has had a long and successful history. The distillery is one of the only ones remaining that uses floor maltings which contributes 40% of their usage and for this process, Bowmore use as much local barley as they can. This commitment to traditional methods and local resources has helped Bowmore become a favourite of many whisky collectors and drinkers alike.
