GlenDronach
Glendronach has a fairly turbulent history. Despite the whisky being sold in London soon after the distillery’s founding in 1826, a fire almost completely destroyed the distillery in 1837 and the distillery’s owner, James Allardice, declared bankruptcy in 1842. Thankfully, Walter Scott save Glendronach from extinction and bought the distiller in 1852. The buildings constructed under Scott’s supervision still stand today.
Charles Grant, the son of William Grant (of Glenfiddich fame) bought Glendronach in 1920 and the distillery was then sold to Wm Teach & Sons in 1967. A few changes of ownership later (Allied Distillers, Pernod Ricard, The BenRiach Distilling Company) the distillery is now owned by Brown-Forman, producer of Jack Daniels.
Glendronach is an old-style and typically sherried malt that is reminiscent of the buildings’ Victorian roots.
