Dunnottar 1975 18 year old Glenury Royal
This whisky was distilled at Glenury Royal and bottled under the 'Dunnottar' name. Distilled in 1975 and bottled at 18 years old for Arthur J A Bell, The Whisky Connisseur at cask strength in hand labelled bottles that reference both proof and % ABV. Glenury Royal distillery was closed and then demolished in the early 1980s, and as a result, Glenury Royal bottlings are increasingly rare.
This 18 year old whisky was drawn from a single cask, number 5241, and was bottle 284.
Glenury Royal was another distillery to fall victim to the distillery closures of the 1980’s. In the remote eastern highlands many cherished distilleries were lost. Glenury was founded by Captain Robert Barclay, the first man to walk 1000 miles in 1000 hours, the distillery underwent numerous fires and accidents all the way up until 1968 when its floor maltings were ceased. The distillery continued making whisky for two more decades until closure in 1983. The most famous of Glenury Royal bottlings is part of the Rare Malts Collection.
