Bruichladdich Distillery
We know of Bruichladdich these days for being quite ‘punk rock’ in their attitudes towards peating, casks, and general experimentation. As is always the case, this wasn’t the distillery’s MO for its entire life. From being founded in 1881, traded between individuals and small conglomerates, being closed on three separate occasions, and releasing twenty-eight limited edition bottles in its early rebirth, Bruichladdich has certainly been through the mill.
Something which remained true throughout most of Bruichladdich’s history was the low peating or sometimes lack of peating across their bottled stock. Through expressions such as Octomore, Port Charlotte, Lochindaal Bruichladdich have released more classic Islay expressions. Octomore includes the most heavily peated whiskies in the world.
Gordon & Macphail
Gordon & Macphail are one of the oldest whisky bottlers to exist in the world. Bottling over 350 expressions from over 70 distilleries, as well as bottling whisky for numerous large distilleries in Scotland for decades. Bottling whisky for 115 years and now proud owners of the Benromach distillery since 1993. They did nearly purchase Strathisla Distillery from Seagram’s in the 1950’s, but Seagram’s wanted £71,000, whereas Gordon & Macphail only offered £70,000. Imagine.
