Bowmore 21 Year Old 1990s
This Bowmore 21 year old is presented in the stunning vintage livery of 1990's Bowmore and would have been distilled in the 1970s making this whisky a relic from an older version of Bowmore. This whisky was matured for 21 years on Islay before being bottled by the distillery. Bowmore bottlings make a strong addition to any whisky collection, and this 1990s bottling offers good value to a collection for a beautifully presented, high age statement Islay whisky.
Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay however it didn’t have much notable history until Suntory bought 35% in Morrison-Bowmore in 1989. After this point we saw huge changes in how Bowmore was marketed to the world. The launch of Black Bowmore in 1993, arguably, signalled the induction of whisky as a collectable asset. Suntory bought Morrison-Bowmore outright in 1994. Following this was the launch of Bowmore 15 Darkest in 1999, and the eventual release of the oldest and most sought-after Bowmore stocks to the world. There was also the change in distillate style after Suntory became involved, with the pre1990 stock of Bowmore always being given the ‘lavender’ moniker.
