Samaroli Springbank 1964 Glen Cawdor

This Glen Cawdor 1964 single malt whisky was bottled by RW Duthie for Samaroli in 1983.

The label on this bottle includes Samaroli's tasting notes which read: “well balanced aromatic bouquet. Full bodied, sweet, fresh and smoky nose, with a similar taste. Rich with pleasant aftertaste. Well matured nectar”.

The renowned independent bottler, Samaroli, hand selected a 1964 Springbank sherry cask for bottling in 1983. Samaroli used the name 'Glen Cawdor', inspired by Castle Cawdor from Shakespeare's Macbeth, in place of the distillery name due to licensing regulations. Only 360 bottles were produced from the 1964 Springbank cask and this is bottle number 92.

Samaroli Srl was established in 1968, first as an importer of whisky, and forayed into bottling in 1979 with a series of Cadenhead dumpy bottlings. Following the success of this series, Samaroli fully entered into the industry as an independent bottler of Scotch whisky, the first outside the UK. Samaroli was a pioneer of cask strength bottlings in the mid to late eighties and was regarded as a visionary and a master of cask selection. Samaroli bottlings have become world famous and incredibly sought after on the secondary market, and this Glen Cawdor 1964 is no exception.

Springbank Distillery

Springbank is a distillery that has always walked its own path. Part of the reason that they have reached the pinnacle of whiskies for collectors is that they have always been led by their whisky, whisky that is consistently high quality and appropriately priced. Springbank are family owned and their huge success means that they struggle to say yes to new accounts for retailers due to their carefully limited output. They’ve even put a pause on their Springbank Society Membership as they just can’t keep up with demand.
