Imperial Distillery
Imperial may have the gold medal spot when it comes to closures and mothballing, despite being open for just over a century. Closed between 1899-1919, 1925-1955, 1985-1991 and then finally in 1998. The only official bottle was a 15YO that is rarely seen, but independent bottles are still available from increasingly scarce stock. On the site of where Imperial used to be the new Dalmunach distillery has been built, which opened and became operational as of 2015.
Cadenhead
Cadenhead was first established by George Duncan in 1842, at 47 Netherkirkgate in Aberdeen, making it the oldest of Scotland’s independent bottlers. In 1972 J & A. Mitchell took over the business and moved operations from Netherkirkgate to Campbeltown. Nowadays, in addition to the high-end, non-coloured and non-chill-filtered single malts, Cadenhead has tasting rooms and shops in Edinburgh and London.
