Mannochmore Distillery
Mannochmore was built in the early 1970s by DCL in order to cope with increasing demands for blended Scotch. It is located next to its sister plant, Glenlossie, just south of Elgin. Mannochmore was used in the creation of Haig & Dimple.
The distillery is perhaps best known for its use in creating the controversial ‘Loch Dhu The Black Whisky’, infamous for its deep, black colour. The Black Whisky contains spirit caramel to enhance the dark colour of the whisky. The use of spirit caramel is a very controversial topic amongst whisky lovers.
